Growing up, growing old

When I was a wee child I was basically told that I could not knit nor sew so I simply didn't bother. Now, after a prolonged and enforced period of inactivity, I've decided to prove that teacher wrong. Here's my first sewing effort - no sniggering please. A huge thanks has to go to my Mum, again, who patiently saw me through the (painful) process.

Yes, you've guessed it, it's a cushion. I popped to the fabric shop with my Mum and chose these as the colours looked good and I wanted something for my red chair. The stripy material is linen, whilst the rest is cotton - not the best of combination but it didn't prove too big a problem. I even managed to saw in a zip, which was not as complicated as I thought it might be. So not bad for a first attempt even if it was only squares.

I've since moved onto a blanket, which will keep me warm hopefully when I'm admiring the views from my new flat, and I'm knitting a scarf, too. I hate to admit it but I enjoy it.

Hello Granoui!!!! Sorry, I just had to! Flaming narrow minded teacher hey... well hey, we've both proved her wrong :-). Although I have to say I'm still a bit scared about the sowing bit. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get there. I love the cushion, I know where to go now to get the things I need and shops never hold. When will you start taking orders? I hope all is well with you, and the imminent move is not proving too stressful. All is well here, back to work on monday but hopefully not for long.... LOL from all of us up here in the very cloudy north west xxx

Oh by the way, it is Fiona writing, not Patrick! But it's his google account...

Aye, silly teacher. Don't mess with Blackburns, that's all I'll say ;) I'd encourage you to get sewing, it's not as scary as it looks. I'm even buying my own machine soon so that I can carry on in Cornwall. I've got a couple of ideas for cushions but if there's something you would like, let me know :)

Everything's fine here, even if it's getting a bit stressful now. Only three weeks to go. Glad everything is ok up norf, shame about work but hopefully you'll be able to hand in your notice soon as things pick up. I gather you had a good holiday?

Be good and enjoy your last days of freedom xoxox

Yo Missy.

Vastly superior to my first cushion I must say! (Mines that little pink and yellow thing that's still floating around somewhere, like a pillow for a mouse!)

Though I am now vastly threatened for my place as 'the sister who sews!' I'm gonna have to up my game, which may mean following patterns!!

And as a little by point, teachers are full of *rude word*.

When you get down here we can hit the car boots for sewing machines, the farms littered with old singers! Or you could get a nifty new one like Auntie Dorothy, but mine would be prettier!

Right, I better head off before Dick catches me most definitely not doing his admin, you should do some back tracking posts of all the knitting you've done over the past year or so.

Lots of love x x x

PS, I've had too much coffee, miss-spelled definitely and it suggested decaffeinated as a correction, is it trying to tell me something?

Yo little sista,

My my, don't we have a competitive side to one's self? You now have two sisters who knit and one who sews, so methings it's time you took up another hobby if you want to be unique ;)

I bought a sewing machine one Saturday - can't wait to use it :) But it'll still be good to go round car boot sales, if you're up for it.

You're right, I'll post some of the knitting I've done over the past year. I'm working on socks at the moment but I can't make sense of the instructions, and neither can Mother! One day maybe I'll be able to finish them

Be good xoxox

Looks like a fine cushion to me... and I love the colors!
I was really bad at sewing and knitting too, so you give me hope. Now, i just need to stop procrastinating!

Nothing wrong with procrastinating, she said staring at her boxes ;) Well maybe we should have a common blog, so we can admire each other's work.

Thanks for the compliment by the way. That cushion is proving very popular :)
